MANWOMAN: Path to the reclamation of the Swastika.

These pics show me awakening to the spiritual, changing my name, scaring my relatives, taking a leap of faith. By 1967, I was dreaming that the swastika needed to be restored and, what is more startling, I acted on it.

Night after night in 1965, my body went into a spontaneous trance
and my spirit soared up through a vortex of energy, power, and
sound and melted in god, love, and peace. No drugs were involved.

I call this "Womb Of The Sacred" - my spirit soaring up into the mystical light of the Source. This triggered my swastika dreams and my realization that the swastika is universal and it stands for that blessing place inside all of us.

This was the poster for my first art
show in Edmonton, Alberta using the
name ManWoman. 1969.
Scared the shit out of my friends and relatives.

I created 5 dragon guitars from my dreams with the help of Frank Gay, a famous Edmonton guitar maker. This one is called The Miracle of Saint Penis - to express the sexual/spiritual energy in my spine "Shakti". 1969-1975

I designed Smiley Swastika knowing that he would be loved by millions all over the world in the future. 1968

My dreams told me the restore the swastika as a sacred symbol.
I started tattooing myself with swastikas. First one in 1969, on my pinky finger, then my hands tattooed by Fat Rick in 1971. Every tattoo shop had a big sign - No Hands or Faces Tattooed. When I tattooed my Third Eye, it ended my first marriage.

By 1982, I had all of my major work completed by Sudsy Soper.

My "Gentle Swastika" painting was created to soothe some of my Jewish friends. I used the image on a postcard which I silk screened for the swastika
conference at Swastika, Ontario, Canada, 1985.

In 1985, three of my swastika penpals and I held a conference in Swastika, Ontario, Canada.
Guru Svastika - Germany, Douglas Youngblood - Chicago, Carolyn O'Neil - town historian of Swastika, and me, ManWoman - Canada. A lady I know made us the fuzzy swastikas.

This was a huge break for me, thanks to Lyle Tuttle (he had photographed me for his Tattoo Museum). I circulated a "Swastika Declaration of Independance" that was signed by many tattoo artists. The most famous are Lyle Tuttle, Don Ed Hardy, Leo Zulueta, Hanky Panky, and Spider Webb.

No publisher, no distributor, no bookstore would touch my book. In 2001, I published it myself. Some bookstores would return the books saying, "My customers say they will never shop here again if I don't get rid of that book," so most of 3,000 copies were sold online to Friends of the Swastika - Yay! AUSPICIOUS RECONSTITUTIONS is an exhibition by Dublin based artist Boz Mugabe. This is an anthropological study, surveying human strength and tribal instinct. In a former life Boz worked rabidly on illicit and heretical codices, narrowly avoiding much deserved execution. This exhibition opens 15th October and runs until the end of the month.

Hi Folks,
We are pleased to announce that we finally have the charity art auction for the Traditional Tattoo and world Culture Festival up on line. We had planned on holding the auction on the weekend of the festival itself but as some of you know, time got the better of us and we never got around to it. All proceeds of the auction will go directly to Cobh Hospital which has been neglected by the Irish government for some time now and is in desperate need of funding to survive, so all money will be very gratefully received.
We are still waiting for some pieces to go up online and will keep people posted as they go up. Some of the images from the photographer who shot all the art have gone missing somewhere in the system and we couldn't load them on line properly, so we are working on this and plan to have the second "wave" of art up in the next week or so.
Below are the links to the art that is online now and it will be up for 10 days, please have a look and if you like something please dig deep and put in a bid. Also, could everyone please pass this email on to all who may be interested and if you run a blog, please could you re-post these links with a bit of info about the project for me please. The wider the circle of people interested in this the bigger the donation will be at the end of it all.

Here I am at the entrance to Carlsberg Beer in Copenhagen where four gigantic stone elephants, marked with the sun wheel swastika, stand on guard. AN INTRODUCTION TO THE GENTLE SWASTIKA COLLECTIVE

The Gentle Swastika Collective is a new concept in the global battle to reclaim the swastika for its true meaning.
It is a collective of Artists, Musicians, Film Makers and Academics, Free Thinkers and Spiritual Teachers. The primary goal of the collective is to become unified in action in reclaiming the swastika.
At this present time, globally there are individuals and minority groups all trying to achieve the one goal.
The T.G.S.C proposes that one unified group is brought together under the one global banner in achieving this goal. The collective will set up websites/public information literature, music gigs, video and film documentaries, etc. to create awareness and funding to promote the collective.

Currently the collective consists of the following people and groups -
ManWoman - The father of the swastika reclamation movement, artist, author, poet, spiritual teacher and guide. ManWoman has actively been promoting the gentle swastika and reclaiming it for over 40 years.
Dominick O'Cruadhliocht - Film maker, artist and musician. Dominick is creating the pioneering movie/documentary - My Swastika. The movie follows the growth of the grass roots movement that is surfacing worldwide and intellectually raises questions and debate around each individual’s claim to ownership on the swastika.
Phil Cummins and original skin tattoo studio - Tattoo artist, festival and event organiser and promoter. Phil has created Ireland’s first Traditional Tattoo and World Culture Festival. The festival is being used as a platform to promote the positive use of the swastika and all the world cultures that use it. The festival will create a forum for the groups involved in the collective to officially come together in public solidarity and officially launch the T.G.S.C. movement.
Coldwar - One of Ireland’s most well known and prolific punk/heavy metal bands. Coldwar have been taking the swastika and T.G.S.C on the road around Ireland with the band Yurt. They have actively promoted the swastika through public information videos, leaflets, music and live gigs.
Boz Mugabe - Boz is an Irish artist who has actively used the swastika in his paintings, drawings and literature over the past 15-20 years.
Yurt – Dublin based progressive rock / sonic attack band.
Ferank Manseed - Ferank is a Buddhist tattoo artist. Ferank specialises in sacred swastika based hand poked tattoos. Ferank has actively moved around the planet educating people in the truth and meaning behind the swastika for over 25 years. He has helped unify a considerable amount of activists in this cause and continues to do so.

The collective is completely open to groups or individuals who wish to become part of it and help promote its cause. It encourages individuality between members as each one can contribute something on their own level. All the collective asks is that the members do what they are currently doing except under the banner of the T.G.S.C. We want to encourage members and sympathisers to try and promote/inform and create worldwide awareness about swastika and to help fundraise to create events and publish quality literature and film on the subject.

The collective is calling for support from religious groups that have always used the swastika for their organisations to become part of the group.
